Welcome to Redland District Special School
We are located in the heart of the Redlands, surrounded by the natural beauty of bushland and the bay. Just 40 minutes from Brisbane City, our school is proud to be part of a vibrant and supportive local community.
We provide specialised education for students with disabilities, from birth through to the completion of their allocated 26 semesters of state schooling (including Prep), typically up to 17 years of age.

Our school community
For children of non-compulsory school age, we offer an Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP). We also provide a full-time Prep program tailored for students with high support needs who are likely to continue their education within a special school setting.
Our school is organised into Prep, Early Years, Middle Years, Junior Secondary, and Senior Secondary cohorts. Class groups are thoughtfully based on age, developmental level, social compatibility, and maturity. With class sizes typically ranging from 5–7 students, each group is supported by a teacher and teacher aide. Additional teacher aide support is provided where needed to meet specific student or program requirements.
Learning and support
At Redland District Special School, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student can thrive. Our students access the Australian Curriculum, which is carefully adapted to meet their individual learning needs. Each student has a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP), developed in collaboration with families, to reflect their unique strengths, goals, and aspirations.
Students engage with the Australian Curriculum which is adapted to suit students with intellectual disabilities. Families receive end-of-semester report cards to celebrate their child's progress and achievements.

In the Senior School, we offer curriculum pathways that support students in achieving the Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA). Each student has a Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan, outlining personalised pathways to support their transition to life beyond school.
All school-age students at Redland District Special School have an intellectual disability, and many have additional needs. Our facilities, resources, and programs are designed to cater for the diverse requirements of our students.
We collaborate closely with Regional services to provide access to occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language therapy, guidance services, and specialist nursing support, ensuring holistic care for every student.
