Our Primary sector includes the Early Childhood Development Program, Early Years and Middle Years. Across the sector, learning is planned around each student’s individual strengths, needs and curriculum level, with a strong focus on communication, engagement, literacy, numeracy and independence.
Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP)
Our Early Childhood Development Program supports children from birth to five years with a diagnosed disability. The ECDP offers Playgroup, Transition and Pre-Prep programs, as well as outreach support.
Learning is play-based and responsive to each child’s individual stage of development. Children are supported to develop early communication, social interaction, engagement, independence and participation through songs, stories, sensory play, movement and hands-on activities.
The program works alongside families, early childhood services and other supports to help children build the skills and confidence needed for a successful transition to Kindy and Prep.
Early Years — Prep to Year 2
In the Early Years, students access age-appropriate learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Learning is adjusted and differentiated to suit each student’s individual curriculum level, communication needs, strengths and learning goals.
Teachers use a combination of explicit teaching, play-based learning, schematic play, sensory exploration, repetition and hands-on activities to support student engagement. Visual supports, AAC and other communication systems are embedded throughout the day to help students understand, participate and express themselves.
There is a strong focus on developing early literacy and numeracy, communication, social interaction, independence and positive engagement in learning. Teachers work collaboratively to design meaningful units and provide different ways for every student to participate and demonstrate their learning.
Middle Years — Years 3 to 6
In the Middle Years, students continue to access age-appropriate learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Units are carefully adjusted and differentiated according to each student’s curriculum level, interests, strengths and individual learning needs.
Teachers use explicit instruction, modelling, visual supports, AAC, repetition, practical activities and hands-on learning experiences to make curriculum content meaningful and accessible. Students are supported to practise and apply their developing skills across different learning areas and everyday situations.
Learning continues to build literacy, numeracy and communication while placing an increasing focus on independence, problem-solving, social development and active participation. Students are provided with a range of ways to engage with learning and show their understanding.
