Our Senior Secondary program supports students in Years 10 to 12 as they prepare for adulthood and life beyond school. Learning is individualised around each student’s strengths, needs, interests and future goals, with a strong focus on communication, literacy, numeracy, independence and active community participation.
Year 10
In Year 10, students continue to access age-appropriate learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Teachers adjust and differentiate learning according to each student’s curriculum level, communication needs and individual goals.
Alongside classroom learning, students begin developing the practical, personal and work-related skills that will support their transition into Years 11 and 12.
Years 11 and 12
In Years 11 and 12, students undertake individualised learning guided by the Guide for Individual Learning. Each student’s program is informed by their Senior Education and Training Plan and supports them to work towards the Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement.
Learning goals are selected according to what is meaningful for each student and may focus on communication, literacy, numeracy, personal development, independent living, community participation and preparation for work.
Learning in Senior Secondary
Teachers use explicit instruction, modelling, visual supports, AAC, repetition and practical, hands-on experiences to make learning meaningful and accessible. Students are supported to practise and apply their skills in different settings, including the classroom, across the school and within the wider community.
Senior students also participate in a range of school-based, vocational and community learning programs. These experiences provide meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, independence, responsibility and skills for life beyond school.
