At Redland District Special School, we provide specialised educational programs for students aged 5 to 18 years who have an intellectual disability.
Enrolments at our school follow the Queensland Department of Education's placement and enrolment procedures. For more information, please refer to the Enrolment in State Primary, Secondary and Special Schools Procedure External link.
Eligibility for Enrolment
To be eligible for enrolment at a special school, students must meet the following criteria:
- The student has a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).
- The student has a severe disability, including an intellectual disability.
- The student is unlikely to achieve their full developmental potential without access to specialised education.
- A special school is determined to be the most appropriate educational setting for the student, based on their individual needs.
If you are considering enrolling your child at our school, we recommend contacting the Guidance Officer at your child's current school. They will assist you through the enrolment process and liaise with us to ensure a smooth transition.
To determine when your child can start Prep, you can use the Department's Online Calculator External link. Simply select your child's month and year of birth to check their eligibility.
Our School Structure
Our school is organised into four key sectors:
Primary School
- Early Years: Prep – Year 2
- Middle Years: Years 3 – 6
High School
- Junior Secondary: Years 7 – 9
- Senior Secondary: Years 10 – 12
Students in all sectors engage with the Australian Curriculum, which is carefully adapted to meet their individual learning needs. Our teachers collaborate to design meaningful and engaging units of work tailored to each student's age, interests, and abilities.
